Smart Entryway Storage Ideas

Smart Entryway Storage Ideas

Storage Ideas

April 10. 2023

Hi! I’m Sayaka Minami, a Japanese minimalist, and professional organizer.

Do you often forget to take things with you when you go out?
Do you also find your bags and coats scattered around your room?
In this issue, I introduce smart storage ideas for the entryway area that may help you solve these problems.

1. Store everyday bags and coats in the entryway closet.

Many people tend to throw their bags and coats in the living room when they come home.
Try to find storage space in the entryway closet for the bags and coats you use most often.
That way, you can take them out quickly when you go out, and you don’t have to bring the bags into your room when you come back.

Items that you take with when you go out, such as your wallet, can be left in your bag.
The key is keeping only one or two bags and coats in the entryway closet.
Even if you occasionally use other bags or coats, make sure they don’t accumulate in the entryway closet.

Stored small items in drawers.

2. The front door can be the best storage place!

A front door is large enough for people to come in and out to a house.
Why don’t make it useful?
Let’s try using the front door as a storage space.

Use magnetic hooks inside the front door.

If you live in a multi-family residence, the front door is probably made of metal, and you can stick magnets onto it.
You can simply attach magnetic hooks inside the front door.
It is convenient to keep small items you use when you go out or when deliveries arrive.

✔︎ House keys, car keys
✔︎ Masks
✔︎ Hand sanitizer
✔︎ Box openers
✔︎ Umbrellas

3. Make useful the door of the closest room to the entryway.

Yes, it is convenient to have stored around the entryway.
However, your house may not have an entryway closet or very small space around the entryway.
If this is the case, try to use the door to the room closest to the entryway.

Unlikely a front door, magnets are not working for interior doors.
You can use an over the door organizer, which you can find various types in the market
I use an over the door organizer from IKEA.

You may also find an over the door organizer at a dollar store, or DAISO economically.
Choose an organizer that matches the thickness of the door and install it.
By handing hats, bags and outerwear, it will become too easy grab what you need when you go out and put it back when you return.

The entryway can be a small space, but if you can make the most of it, you’ll feel less stressed when you leave and come back your home.
I hope you find these ideas are useful and make your daily life easier.
